Wiki helped me learn the terms and drugs. If possible, though, I would have liked a follow-up on them from Mrs. Adams. If someone misses an important issue with a drug or term, there is no way for the rest of us to know unless we recheck everything else individually which would defeat the purpose of the exercise. The blogs were helpful to get me to think about specific ideas that may never come up unless I work in the field much longer. The blog about adding more beds and more staff is a good example. Although I am not yet experienced or trained as a manager, it helped me conceptualize and evaluate circumstances and environmental concerns of a unit that I do not give much thought to besides "where are the clean linens?" The paperless work helped cut down on wasted time (except for a few technical glitches) and helped me focus my energies for this class.
I really liked using the Wiki to convey our messages and complete our assignments on! I liked learning our OB terms and drugs by using the Wiki because it saved alot of time, trees, and I feel people were more apt to be more meticulous on their drug cards knowing they only had to do 2 or 3 vs. 30. Reading others blogs let me look at different points of views and rationales that I had never even thought of, which I thought was very interesting. I would definitely recommend this tool to others. Also, I looked forward to clinicals more, knowing that I wouldn't have to complete a packet of work each time I went.
The WIKI really helped me learn the terms and drugs. The time saved due to this tool was invaluable in helping me not waste my study time. The other way it helped was by making the resources easy to reproduce. Handwriting is time consuming and is not as easily reproduced. I would definitely recommend this tool for future classes.
The blog was not only interesting but also very informative. Getting my classmates opinions was a great way to see many different sides to a single question. I think that as future nurses we need to learn to approach problems from many angles so we do not limit our potential to help. I would recommend this tool. It was not time consuming and provided a nice addition to the clinical experience.
I thought the Wiki really helped me this semester. If I somehow misplaced a drug card I had printed out...the Wiki was always there to refer back to. I think it enabled me to take more time out to learn what the terms and drugs were than just to be focused on copying them. The blog was interesting, it enabled me to take questions into consideration that I have not before.
I thought using the Wiki was helpful in learning the terms and the drugs. It is a wonderful tool in cutting down on the paperwork. I really liked this idea of doing these terms/drugs as group work. I would defintely recommend using this for future groups. I really did not utilize the blogs. I wish that we had the time to talk about these issues as a group in person, I think that would be better.
The WIKI was very helpful in learning the OB terms and drugs once I figured out how to navigate it! I think that the time we saved allowed more time for studying. It also showed how the group can all work together as a team. I would definitely recommend continuing the use of the WIKI for future classes. The blog was also beneficial. I enjoyed reading other’s postings and their views on the different topics. In a way, it’s like a continuation of post-conference. I liked the diversity of the prompts that were given each week for the blog; in other words, we weren’t just writing what we saw in clinical every week. I would also recommend the blog for future classes.
Using WIKI definitely helped me learn the OB terms & drugs and helped me explore clinical issues related to OB nursing, and I would highly recommend implementing this method in this and other projects. One of the benefits of this system is learning the value of teamwork, which will come into play in the workplace. Many of our group projects in other classes have been frustrating because we haven't learned how to work as teams effectively. In this exercise, however, the advantages of teamwork became apparent as it was very time-effective to split up the work of collecting data so that each student maximized the limited time available for learning. Another benefit is becoming comfortable with using computers instead of paperwork, since most if not all facilities in which we will be working have converted to computerized record-keeping. One last point I will make is that the computer provides a reliable way to verify, for both instructor and student, that assignments have been accomplished.
I really enjoyed using the wiki. It helped me learn the OB terms in a timelier manner without having to spend hours looking each one of them up individually, but instead spending time studying the drugs. I would definitely recommend this learning tool in the future. It has also benefited my grades in the classroom. The blog made you think about different issues and give your opinion freely. I would recommend this learning tool as well in the future.
I would most definitely recommend this learning tool to students and instructors. While it cut down our workload, it did not compromise our learning approach. I am convienced that I know the drugs and baby assessment concepts just as well as if I had completed the whole worksheets myself. I was also better equipped to utilize my clinical time more efficiently-observing, participating in care, asking questions- instead of having to worry about making my paperwork "look good". I looked forward to reading the blogs each week that allowed me access to views and ideals from other students.
I really like using Wiki to complete drug cards and terms, it is good that you don't have to spend hours looking up the information and you can spend more time focusing on studying. The only bad part about it was computer issues and also people slacking off and not completing their part on time.I feel that as seniors we should be responsible enough to be able to divide up the work and know that everyone is going to properly complete their part and I feel that it was accomplished. I really enjoyed the blog...I like to read other opinions about issues and clinical experience. I feel like each of these tools make life easier in a hectic semester. It was nice to actually spend time focusing on the important things!
I used WIKI to help me learn some of the terms and to help with the drugs. The only problem I found with wiki was on the drug quizes we had throughout the semester there were questions being asked about the drugs that were hard to pick out in the drug cards. I also didn't like the fact that they were not checked over for accuracy. I would recommend using this again because the pros outweighed the cons.
As for the blog I don't think it help me personally with anything in OB. I found the blog to be a little bit annoying in the fact that I would spend all my time doing things for school and forget to do the blog. It always seemed as though I could not remember to do the blog. Also everytime, including this time, that I used the blog I would have to reset my password just to post. This is extremely irritating, when you don't copy what you have wrote and it deletes it because you have to change your password. I don't feel like the blog helped me in any way and would not recommend using it again.
Yes, I used WIKI to help me learn my terms and drugs. This semester was extremely more time efficient because we used WIKI. Using the blog helped me to think about the different issues that arise everyday being a nurse. It also allowed me to exchange ideas with my peers. I would recommend the use of this format for future clinicals
Wiki definitely helped me learn the terms and drugs. I feel like it saved a lot of time. I was able to study the terms and drugs more because time wasn't spent having to look up everything. I also think the blogs were very helpful because they made be think about clinical issues in OB that I reall ynever thought about before, and it was great to read the opinions of others. I would definitely recommend the use of the Wiki and blog in the future.
I liked the WIKI for the drug cards but I would have liked it better if after all the information was posted Mrs. Adams could have gone in and highlighted or bolded what the important information was. I started the definitions before I found out that we didn't have to do them all; everyone learns differently but for me personally I learned the definitions better when I did them myself.
I think the blogs were helpful. They made me think about what I would do when practicing as a nurse. I think the time-limit to complete them should include some time during the weekend as well. If we have a Wednesday clinical and Thursday class then we only have Friday to do the blog. Maybe a Sunday afternoon deadline would be better.
i thought wiki was great when it came to learning the definitions and drugs. it really gave me more time to study them not having to look each and every one of them up. Wiki did help me explore clinical issues related to OB nursing. some of the things we discussed really made me think about things i hadn't thought of before. Reading others view points also helped broaden my perspectives.
I really enjoyed sharing the work on the WIKI! I believe that it did facilitate learning the ob terms and drugs because we were not focused so much on I have to get this done as much as just learning the terms! I also enjoyed the blog. I know i'm late posting this one but it really was so much better than written paper work. I loved reading what everyone else had to say about the issues posed!
I really enjoyed both the wiki and the blog. The blog really allopwed to express our opinions and learn from the opinions of our peers. The wiki greatly cut down on our work load but still allowed us to learn all of the terms and the drugs we needed to know.
The Wiki site really helped me this semester. I think that it is very proactive for an instructor to look outside the norms and encourage the new technology that is available. It was important to have the time to study and do more patient care than have to do a bunch of busy work. I also believe that this exercise helps to promote teamwork amoung classmates. I enjoyed looking at the other classmates coments because it gives a different perspective and outlook. I did find that the wiki was a bit frustrating to get logged in.
I really liked using the wiki for the terms and drugs. It really helped save time for studying and it was always there for us to reference or print out. I also thought the blogs were very helpful because they made you think about different issues. This allowed me to view others opinions about the subject and also helped to view different perspectives.
